PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 355 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (March 29), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5,048,268 infections since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry’s KKMNow portal reported that 354 of Wednesday’s new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while one imported infection was logged.

There were 257 recoveries logged on Wednesday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 5,002,242 since the pandemic began.

The portal also reported that there were 10,047 active cases currently in the country, with 9,665, or 96.2%, observing home quarantine.

The KKMNow portal reported that 371 patients, or 3.7% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 11, with seven of these patients requiring ventilation support.

The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 60.3%, with eight states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

Putrajaya had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 92.9%, followed by Kedah (76.9%), Selangor (74.6%), Kelantan (74%), MElaka (73.2%), Kuala Lumpur (73%), Johor (71.4%) and Sabah (65%).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository reported that there was one Covid-19 death reported on Wednesday, which was recorded as ‘brought in dead’..
