PUTRAJAYA, 23 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Economy’s August 2026 monthly assembly highlighted efforts to ensure economic growth translates into better employment opportunities, skills, productivity and incomes for Malaysians.

Held on 21 August under the theme “Ekonomi yang Dirasai Rakyat: Membina Rantaian Pendapatan”, the assembly focused on the current economic position and the ministry’s direction in ensuring growth delivers tangible benefits to the people.

Economy Minister YB Tuan Haji Akmal Nasrullah said the ministry’s approach was centred on building a shared understanding of the current economic landscape while ensuring development outcomes could be felt by Malaysians.

Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP) remained strong at 6.0% in the second quarter of 2026, while consumer inflation stood at 1.8% in July. However, the ministry acknowledged that input cost pressures and household spending realities remained challenges that required continued attention.

In line with the aspirations of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), the ministry is placing greater emphasis on talent development, the relationship between productivity and wages, as well as social mobility.

It said development success should not be measured solely by programme implementation, but by tangible and measurable outcomes in terms of employment, skills development and increased household incomes.

Through a work culture centred on urgency, cross-silo collaboration and an outcome-oriented approach, the Ministry of Economy said it remained committed to ensuring every policy and intervention delivers greater value to the people while strengthening the country’s economic resilience.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Economy, the monthly assembly reinforced the ministry’s commitment to translating economic growth into tangible improvements in employment, skills, productivity and income. – The Capital Post
