Paris 27 April 2026 (The Capital Post) – European satellite operator Eutelsat has maintained that demand from the United States remains resilient despite efforts by SpaceX to push for restrictions on foreign competitors in the American market.

Eutelsat chief executive Jean-Francois Fallacher said interest from US clients, including businesses and the Department of Defense, continues to hold steady even as SpaceX lobbies regulators to limit access for non-US satellite operators.

SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, recently urged the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to tighten rules on foreign satellite providers, arguing that companies from regions with restrictive policies against US firms should face similar barriers.

Despite these pressures, Eutelsat indicated that American customers are still actively seeking alternative satellite services, particularly to ensure reliability and redundancy alongside existing systems.

The company, which competes with SpaceX’s Starlink network, serves a mix of commercial, governmental and military clients, and has continued discussions with partners on deploying communication and Earth observation payloads through its satellite infrastructure.

While acknowledging a more complex geopolitical and regulatory environment, Fallacher noted that the demand outlook remains positive, even as some US government contract renewals have slowed amid broader budget considerations.

The situation reflects growing competition in the global satellite industry, where regulatory policies, national security concerns and commercial interests are increasingly shaping market access and technological rivalry.-The Capital Post
