JASIN 17 April 2026 (The Capital Post) – A former express bus driver and his girlfriend have been charged in court over allegations of dangerous driving after a viral video showed the woman sitting on his lap while he was behind the wheel of a moving bus on the North–South Expressway.

The pair were brought before the Magistrate’s Court following investigations into the incident, which sparked widespread public outrage after footage circulated on social media earlier this month.

According to police, the 36-year-old man and 21-year-old woman were initially detained while giving statements at the Jasin district police headquarters before the case was escalated for formal charges.

The video showed the woman seated on the driver’s lap while the bus was in motion, with authorities later confirming that she was also seen handling the steering wheel during the incident.

Investigators said the act took place for several minutes near the Bemban Rest and Service Area (R&R), raising serious safety concerns as the vehicle was travelling on a public highway.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for dangerous driving, an offence that carries severe penalties if convicted.

Authorities said the incident was detected after the video went viral on April 13, prompting immediate enforcement action and a police investigation.

Police have also reminded commercial vehicle operators and drivers to strictly adhere to road safety regulations, stressing that reckless behaviour on highways poses a major risk to all road users.

The case will proceed through the legal process in court as authorities continue to clamp down on viral incidents involving dangerous driving behaviour. -The Capital Post
