Feb 13 (Reuters): Ireland captain Paul Stirling will miss the remainder of the Twenty20 World Cup after sustaining a knee ligament injury during his team’s 67-run loss to Australia in Colombo, Cricket Ireland confirmed on Friday.

Stirling injured his knee while completing a catch to dismiss Australia’s Josh Inglis. He briefly returned to open the batting for Ireland in their 183-run chase but limped off after facing just one ball.

Uncapped 20-year-old left-handed batter Sam Topping has been named as Stirling’s replacement in the squad.

Ireland have lost both of their matches so far in the tournament and are set to face Oman on Saturday in Colombo.
