KUALA LUMPUR, 29 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) is strengthening security preparedness in Langkawi through enhanced assets, manpower and the phased deployment of modern technologies, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), to combat migrant smuggling, contraband trafficking and maritime border incursions.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Dalam Negeri (KDN), Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said in the Dewan Rakyat that the readiness of security assets and personnel in Langkawi remains at a high level and continues to be reinforced through 24-hour maritime patrols, intelligence-driven operations and integrated enforcement involving multiple agencies.

He said the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) and the Marine Police Force (PPM) maintain sufficient personnel and operational assets to ensure swift responses to any security threats within the country’s waters.

The deputy minister also said KDN has agreed to expand the use of UAV technology in phases, including in Langkawi, in line with the ministry’s Strategic Plan 2026–2030 and Artificial Intelligence Strategic Plan 2026–2030, which emphasise a Smart Enforcement approach.

He added that UAVs will serve as a force multiplier by enhancing real-time aerial surveillance and improving the early detection of cross-border criminal activities.

In addition, KDN is exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for predictive maritime security analytics and is considering the establishment of an Integrated Forward Operating Base (IFOB) at Teluk Ewa, Langkawi to strengthen operational coordination between APMM, PPM and the General Operations Force (PGA). – The Capital Post.
