BUKIT KAYU HITAM, 30 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) has reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug abuse through a comprehensive approach involving enforcement, prevention, education, treatment and rehabilitation.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail attended the Jelajah Aspirasi Bebas Dadah: Komuniti FELDA Sihat, Kedah Sejahtera programme, which was officiated by the Raja Muda of Kedah, DYTM Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Ibni Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin.
The presence of the Raja Muda reflected the royal institution’s support for efforts to safeguard public well-being and address drug abuse, which remains a major challenge to national security and prosperity.
In his speech, Saifuddin said Kedah’s strategic location along Malaysia’s northern border requires continuous vigilance to curb drug smuggling. He said KDN, through agencies including the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) and other enforcement bodies, will continue strengthening border security and enforcement operations.
He noted that Malaysia recorded 191,832 drug users and addicts in 2025, a marginal 0.5 per cent decline from 192,857 cases in 2024. While the decrease is encouraging, he said the figures remain a cause for concern and require sustained nationwide efforts.

Saifuddin also highlighted the growing threat posed by synthetic drugs, particularly amphetamine-type stimulants (ATS) such as methamphetamine, ecstasy and yaba, stressing that enforcement alone is insufficient to address the issue.
He called on state governments, local authorities, educational institutions, non-governmental organisations, the private sector, corporate bodies and local communities to strengthen collaboration in preventing drug abuse and creating safer communities.
Also present were KDN Deputy Secretary-General (Security) Dato’ Hj. Abdul Halim Hj. Abdul Rahman, Deputy Secretary-General (Management) Puan Ainah Mohd Soon, and National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Director-General Dato’ Ruslin Jusoh.
