KESUMA boosts union movement with RM6.1mil PHEKS grants

Kuala Lumpur, 24 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), through the Department of Trade Union Affairs (JHEKS), continues to strengthen its trade union empowerment agenda with the handover ceremony of the Trade Union Affairs Programme Grant (PHEKS) 2026 for Peninsular Malaysia.

The event was officiated by Human Resources Minister, YB Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan, and was attended by Deputy Human Resources Minister, YB Datuk Khairul Firdaus Bin Akbar Khan, as well as KESUMA Deputy Secretary-General (Operations), YBrs. Encik Sutekno Bin Ahmad Belon.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Sumber Manusia, the MADANI Government has allocated RM6.1 million for the implementation of PHEKS nationwide in 2026, including RM2.88 million approved for 325 grant applications in Peninsular Malaysia.

In his speech, the Minister emphasised that trade unions serve as strategic partners to the government in strengthening harmonious industrial relations, protecting workers’ rights, and supporting inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

As of 31 December 2025, Malaysia has 786 registered trade unions with more than 1.06 million members. KESUMA will continue to empower the union movement through training, digitalisation, research, and improved governance.
