Kangar, 22 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) is strengthening its strategic collaboration with state governments to ensure the continued development and sustainability of Malaysia’s higher education ecosystem.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Pendidikan Tinggi, the commitment was reaffirmed during a courtesy visit by KPT secretary-general Datuk Ts. Dr. Hj. Aminuddin Hassim to Perlis state secretary Dato’ Noor Azman Abdul Rahman at the Perlis State Government Administrative Complex.
The meeting focused on key initiatives aimed at creating a more conducive learning environment, particularly through efforts to improve student accommodation facilities for students at Universiti Malaysia Perlis and Politeknik Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin.
One of the major outcomes highlighted was the successful implementation of an initiative allowing UniMAP to lease units under the People’s Housing Programme (PPR) from the Perlis state government. The move is expected to accommodate up to 2,400 students at any given time.
Discussions also covered the adjustment of land tax rates for properties owned by the Federal Lands Commissioner and held under UniMAP, involving the Perlis State Land and Mines Office. The measure is aimed at streamlining property management and educational infrastructure administration in the state.

The Facebook post stated that Aminuddin also emphasised KPT’s commitment to student welfare, particularly through the upgrading of basic facilities, including improvements to water supply systems and the maintenance of ageing buildings.
KPT noted that strong bilateral cooperation with the Perlis state government remains essential in enhancing coordination and monitoring of educational facilities to ensure a safer and more conducive environment for students.
The KPT delegation included Deputy Secretary-General (Management and Development) Datuk Ts. Dr. Mohd Nor Azman Hassan, UniMAP vice-chancellor Dato’ Prof. Ts. Dr. Zaliman Sauli, Development Division secretary Izamael Zamzuri Ismail, head of corporate communications Mohamad Hafizi Rosli, and deputy secretary of the Development Division Dr. Fary Akmal Osman.
They were received by representatives of the Perlis state government, including Deputy State Secretary (Development) Rusdi Yahya and Deputy State Secretary (Management) Dr. Noriman Rojulai.- The Capital Post
