KUANTAN, July 20 2026 (The Capital Post) – A total of 48 participants from ministries, departments and agencies under the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) took part in the Basic Disaster Management Course held from 17 to 19 July, aimed at enhancing disaster preparedness through cross-agency collaboration.
The programme was organised by KPWKM in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department (JKM), the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) and the Ministry of Health (KKM).
Based on the Whole-of-Government approach, the course reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening coordination among agencies to ensure disaster management is carried out more efficiently, swiftly and effectively. It also supports KPWKM’s role in welfare assistance, protection services and the management of temporary evacuation centres during disasters.
Throughout the three-day programme, participants attended knowledge-sharing sessions conducted by experts from the respective agencies, visited the Central Logistics Depot of the Kuantan District Social Welfare Department, and took part in disaster simulation exercises designed to replicate real-life emergency situations.
The experiential learning approach enabled participants to better understand the importance of rapid response, effective communication and inter-agency cooperation in ensuring aid is delivered promptly, systematically and efficiently to disaster victims.

The closing ceremony was officiated by KPWKM Deputy Secretary-General (Management), Datin Safida Zalma Mohd Piah, who stressed that disaster management requires strong commitment and coordinated action from all agencies rather than relying on a single organisation.
She encouraged participants to apply the knowledge and experience gained throughout the course by responding to real disaster situations with efficiency, integrity and empathy.
Also present were Social Welfare Department Deputy Director-General (Operations) Rosmahwati Ishak, Pahang Social Welfare Department Director Khairul Amri Ahmad, and representatives from participating agencies.
