PUTRAJAYA, 5 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia and Australia are exploring new initiatives to strengthen bilateral cooperation in higher education following a meeting between Deputy Higher Education Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim and Australia’s Assistant Minister for International Education and Assistant Minister for Citizenship, Customs and Multicultural Affairs, Julian Hill MP.
The courtesy visit focused on enhancing strategic collaboration in higher education, particularly in line with the Malaysia Higher Education Blueprint (RPTM) 2026–2035.
Among the key issues discussed were both countries’ policies and initiatives on international student management, as well as the development of Transnational Education (TNE) to strengthen the global higher education ecosystem and expand collaboration between institutions in Malaysia and Australia.
The meeting also explored the proposal to convene a Joint Working Meeting following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries in 2024. The platform is expected to discuss future directions for cooperation and identify new programmes and initiatives that can be implemented jointly.

The ministry said the continued partnership between Malaysia and Australia will create greater opportunities for students from both countries to gain globally recognised learning experiences while strengthening international collaboration among higher education institutions.
Also present were Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT) Director Prof. Dr. Harshita Aini Haroon, Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) Chief Executive Officer Novie Tajuddin, International Relations Division Secretary Noorazah Omar, Higher Education Department Internationalisation Division Director Dr. Faiezi Zuber, and representatives from the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education (JPPKK) and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
