SAN FRANCISCO 11 March 2026 (The Capital Post)- Microsoft has filed a proposed amicus brief backing a lawsuit by artificial intelligence company Anthropic that seeks to temporarily block the US Department of Defense from labelling the firm a “supply-chain risk.”

Anthropic, the developer of the Claude AI system, recently filed legal action after the Pentagon designated the company as a supply-chain risk, a move that could effectively blacklist it from defence-related contracts and partnerships.

In its court filing, Microsoft argued that the designation could disrupt operations for companies and suppliers that rely on Anthropic’s technology. The tech giant said a temporary restraining order would help prevent costly disruptions while the case is being considered by the court.

Microsoft noted that it could be directly affected by the decision because it integrates Anthropic’s technology into certain services and products supplied to the US military.

Anthropic’s lawsuit aims to stop the Pentagon from enforcing the designation, escalating a broader dispute between the AI firm and the US military over restrictions on how its technology can be used.

The legal battle highlights growing tensions between technology companies and government agencies over the deployment of artificial intelligence, particularly in sensitive areas such as national security and military applications.-The Capital Post
