Kuala Lumpur, 24 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) has called for a stronger innovation-driven and data-based work culture as Malaysia continues to improve its global competitiveness ranking.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (MOSTI), the June 2026 Monthly Assembly was officiated by Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, YB Dato’ Dr. Haji Mohammad Yusof bin Apdal, at the Atrium Peterana, MOSTI.
In his address, the Deputy Minister emphasised that the spirit of Maal Hijrah should inspire MOSTI personnel to embrace more innovative, data-driven and solution-oriented approaches in their work.
He also shared positive news on Malaysia’s global standing, noting that the country has climbed to 15th place in the World Competitiveness Index, up from 23rd place previously. The improvement was attributed to economic reforms, political stability, and the contributions of government agencies under the MADANI administration.
He further stressed that technology development must go beyond technical considerations and be guided by human-centric values to address real societal challenges, including cost of living pressures, food security, and environmental sustainability. He added that the success of research and development (R&D) should ultimately be measured by its real-world impact through products, services, and solutions, rather than academic achievements alone.
