PUTRAJAYA, 11 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT) held a Technical Committee Meeting on Road Safety and Congestion today in preparation for the first 2026 Cabinet Committee Meeting on Road Safety and Congestion (JK-MKKJR), scheduled for August 17.
The meeting served as a coordination platform to refine key issues, proposals and strategic actions before they are brought to the Cabinet Committee level.
Key matters discussed included industry best practices from the oil and gas sector shared by PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad through its SAFERO Safety Framework pilot project, employer interventions by the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) to improve road safety, and the Mutiara LRT Project Traffic Management Plan focusing on traffic coordination and dispersal during the project’s construction and operational phases.
The meeting also reviewed a presentation on the Value of Statistical Life (VSL) to provide a broader understanding of the economic and social impact of deaths and injuries resulting from road crashes.

The discussions are aimed at ensuring that proposals submitted to the Cabinet Committee have clear directions, actionable measures, identified lead agencies, as well as measurable targets and outcomes.
