KUALA LUMPUR, 19 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup officiated the “Weaving the Future – ASEAN Youth Climate Action 2026” programme, an initiative aimed at strengthening the role of young people in addressing climate change and advancing the sustainable development agenda.

According to a Facebook post by Kementerian Sumber Asli dan Kelestarian Alam (NRES), the programme brought together youths from across ASEAN to foster regional collaboration and encourage greater participation in environmental conservation, climate action and the green economy.

In his address, Arthur highlighted Malaysia’s launch of the National Carbon Market Policy (DPKK) in April this year as part of the country’s broader climate change strategy.

He noted that Malaysia’s status as a carbon sink nation and one of the world’s megadiverse countries places it in a strong position to support global climate goals.

Arthur stressed that young people are key drivers of the region’s future and must be given the space and opportunities to lead innovative solutions towards achieving sustainability targets.
