PETALING JAYA: PAS and Umno have agreed to officially register Muafakat Nasional as a political entity with the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

In a joint statement, the Muafakat Nasional leadership agreed to give its full commitment to strengthen unity and cooperation between parties as part of its preparation to face the 15th general election.
“The leadership of both parties have agreed to officially register Muafakat Nasional with the ROS,” it said on Tuesday (Oct 20).
The statement was jointly signed by Muafakat Nasional secretary-general I Tan Sri Annuar Musa and secretary-general II Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.

They said that the Muafakat Nasional steering committee meeting was postponed on Monday (Oct 19) in line with the conditional movement control order (MCO), which is implemented in the Federal Territories to fight the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The meeting was expected to deliberate the current political developments following Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s claim that he has enough support to form the next government.
Speculation was also rife that the meeting was set to deliberate Muafakat Nasional’s cooperation with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) amid an ongoing rift with the party.
Umno is expected to present a list of demands, which included the deputy prime minister position and several key Cabinet positions, to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. -The Star
