GEORGE TOWN, 20 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Penang Regional Development Authority (PERDA) is strengthening its strategic cooperation with the Penang State Government through a courtesy visit by PERDA General Manager YBhg. Dato’ Haji Mohd Asri bin Baharum to the Penang State Secretary’s Office (PSUKPP) at KOMTAR today.

The visit provided a platform for PERDA and PSUKPP to exchange views and explore areas of strategic cooperation in supporting the state’s development agenda, particularly rural development, strengthening the local economy, empowering communities and improving public wellbeing.

The meeting also focused on strengthening coordination between PERDA and the state government to ensure development initiatives are implemented in a more integrated, structured and impactful manner, particularly to ensure rural areas remain part of Penang’s development progress.

As an agency responsible for driving regional development in Penang, PERDA remains committed to advancing rural development through a more inclusive and people-centred approach.

Its efforts include empowering local communities economically, developing infrastructure and housing, strengthening entrepreneurship, developing human capital and creating new economic opportunities for local communities.

PERDA also emphasised that rural development should extend beyond physical infrastructure to include strengthening community capacity, supporting local economies and creating an environment that contributes to the quality of life and wellbeing of residents.

The agency will continue strengthening cooperation with the state government, local authorities, government agencies and relevant stakeholders to identify development needs and opportunities that can be pursued jointly.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of the Penang Regional Development Authority, the strategic cooperation is expected to strengthen balanced development between urban and rural areas while supporting the Penang2030 and Malaysia MADANI aspirations. – The Capital Post
