AYER KEROH: The PKR Youth congress has sent out a strong message – party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim must succeed Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the eighth prime minister.
Delegates from across the country, who spoke during the debate, raised various points but it all boiled down to Anwar and the premiership.
Perak delegate Mohamad Rukhairil Aizat Mohamad Maharani, who urged the wing to throw its full weight behind Anwar as the next prime minister, said members should be grateful to the Port Dickson MP for where they stood.
“If it was not for Anwar, you all wouln’t be here today. If it wasn’t for Anwar, I wouldn’t wear this party shirt and the delegates tag too. “So, support Anwar as the eighth prime minister, ” he said while addressing the PKR Youth congress at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) yesterday.
Sabah delegate Mohammad Razeef Rakimin echoed the view, saying whoever opposed “should be booted out”.
“There is no reason for us to not support (Anwar). I feel disappointed when there are those who do not, ” he said.
PKR Youth vice-chief Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman, in his winding-up speech, said since the leadership transition period has yet to reach its May 2020 deadline, PKR members should back Dr Mahathir as the current premier.
He said when the time comes, party members must show unwavering support to Anwar as the next prime minister.
“There must not be any criticism. It’s okay to have differing opinions, but attend party meetings if you have different opinions, ” he said.
PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasrullah Md Nasir voiced his full support for Anwar in his opening remarks.
“We cannot run away from the transition issue involving the prime minister’s post. I believe that the Pakatan Harapan presidential council will ensure that the power transition from Dr Mahathir to Anwar will take place smoothly.
“We must remain loyal and give our backing to the government on this, ” he said.
