Rough waters for Malaysian sailors

The national sailors found the going tough as they battled choppy waters and strong winds at the Enoshima Bay yesterday.

Khairulnizam Afendy tried to overcome the waves as high as two metres but could only finish 13th in race six, 26th in race seven and 28th in race eight in the laser standard event.

The Malaysian is 27th overall with 153 points.

Australia’s Matt Wearn leads with 29 points, followed by Cyprus’ Pavlos Kontides (44 points) and Norway’s Hermann Tomasgaard (49).

Compatriot Nur Shazrin Latif finished 28th in race seven and 30th in race eight in the women’s laser radial and is 28th overall with 163 points.

Denmark’s Anne-Marie Rindom leads with 25 points, followed by Finland’s Tuula Tenkanen (46) and Sweden’s Josefin Olsson (47).

In the women’s 470, Nuraisyah Jamil-Juni Karimah finished 18th in race three and 20th in race four and are 18th overall with 52 points.

Poland’s Agnieszka Skrzypulec-Jolanta Ogar lead with four points, followed by Brazil’s Fernanda Oliveira- Ana Barbachan (16) and Israel’s Noya Bar Am-Shahar Tibi (19).-NST
