KOTA KINABALU, 4 March 2026 (The Capital Post)— Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Chief Minister of Sabah, has urged investors from the People’s Republic of China to explore the wide range of economic opportunities available in the Malaysian state, particularly in emerging and strategic sectors.
Speaking at a Chinese New Year reception hosted by the Chinese Consulate in Kota Kinabalu, Hajiji highlighted Sabah’s proactive stance on international economic cooperation and its readiness to welcome foreign capital.
Under the state’s development framework, Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0, Sabah is seeking new partnerships in areas such as the Blue Economy, renewable energy, smart infrastructure, digital innovation and sustainable tourism, the Chief Minister said.
The SMJ 2.0 roadmap is designed to strengthen domestic and foreign investment flows and support Sabah’s long-term economic agenda. Hajiji noted that the state has benefited significantly from longstanding ties with China, a key partner in sectors including trade, tourism and infrastructure development.
While delivering his remarks — read on his behalf by Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun — Hajiji emphasised the historic and enduring diplomatic relationship between Malaysia and China, celebrating over five decades of cooperative engagement between the two countries.

He expressed confidence that strengthening economic ties with China would not only drive investment but also enhance social and cultural connections, laying a foundation of mutual trust and shared progress.
“As we mark this Year of the Fire Horse, which symbolises strength, optimism and determination, we hope to deepen collaboration and bring greater prosperity to both our peoples,” Hajiji said in his address.
Sabah’s outreach to Chinese investors aligns with its broader strategy of diversifying investment sources and accelerating growth in key industries that can generate jobs, spur innovation and enhance global connectivity. -The Capital Post
