Storm Damages 65 JKR Quarters in Sungai Besi

KUALA LUMPUR, July 3, 2026 (The Capital Post) – According to information shared on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Kerja Raya Malaysia (KKR), the ministry’s Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Azman Ibrahim, conducted a site visit to inspect damage at the JKR Batu 4½ government quarters in Sungai Besi following a severe storm that struck the area on May 25.

The visit was aimed at assessing the extent of damage and reviewing ongoing repair efforts at the affected residential complex.

Also present were Deputy Secretary-General (Management) Datuk Zainal Alhakab Seman, Finance Division Secretary Muhammad Haizul Azreen Usol Ghafli, representatives from the Asset and Quarters Branch of KKR’s Facilities Management Division and officers from the Public Works Department of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (JKR WPKL).

The storm, which occurred at approximately 3pm, caused significant damage to rooftops and several government housing structures. A total of 65 housing units were affected, with roof damage estimated at between 80 and 100 per cent. Several garages and external structures also sustained damage, although no casualties were reported.

During the visit, Azman was briefed on immediate measures taken by JKR WPKL, including safety inspections, temporary relocation of affected residents and the installation of temporary roof coverings to protect damaged homes.

To date, roof repair works have been completed for 52 housing units, while repairs on the remaining 13 units are currently underway.

KKR is also reviewing a comprehensive repair proposal involving 64 housing units, with estimated costs of approximately RM4.1 million.

The ministry said it will continue to ensure that repair works are carried out efficiently and systematically to safeguard the welfare and safety of residents in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI. – The Capital Post
