Thaipusam : MIC gives face mask, free food for 10,000 devotees

KUALA LUMPUR , 9 Feb 2020 ( The Capital Post) – Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC)  ‘tanner panthal’ (kiosk) gave away around 10,000 free food (anadhanam) and 10,000 free mask during the Batu Caves Thaipusam chariot process.

The kiosk situated along the Jalan Ipoh with volunteers from MIC were seen giving away free food, drinks and mainly face mask to all devotees, tourist and those passing by the kiosk.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, additionally, MIC decided to hand out free mask to everyone who pass by the kiosk.

When asked MIC Deputy President, Datuk M. Saravanan on giving out the face mask, he elobarated that its essential as the saying goes ‘prevention is better than cure’, in order to face any situation regardless the need.

We believe its rather better to practise prevention and proactive measures, rather than acting to any situation reactively.

Datuk Saravanan pointed out that Thaipusam is a festival that draws more unity and colours to Malaysia.

He even added that Thaipusam is also considered as a favourite tourism event for some international travellers who wants to see more colours and culture of the Hindu people here in Malaysia.

Those present during the hand-outs were MIC veeps Datuk T. Mohan, Datuk C. Sivarraajh, Dato T. Murugiah ,MIC Youth Chief R.Thinalan and members from MIC Youth Wing.

Thaipusam celebrated by the Hindus falls on on February 8, as the ‘poosam’ star auspicious for Thaipusam falls on that day.

Thaipusam is an auspicious festival associated with Lord Murugan. The Hindu legend says that Lord Muruga received the ‘vel’ (spear) from his mother, Parvathi.
