KLUANG — Police have arrested two men for illegally possessing fireworks in separate raids carried out in the early hours of Wednesday (Feb 25).

Kluang OCPD Bahrin Mohd Noh said the suspects, aged 25 and 41, were detained at their respective homes between 12.35am and 1.11am following a public complaint received about an hour earlier.

“During the operation, we seized 11 units of ‘Happy Boom’ fireworks, including one set that had already been lighted, as well as two lighters,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Feb 26).

The two men, who work as a local shop assistant and a painter in Singapore respectively, were found to have prior drug records. However, both tested negative for drugs at the time of arrest.

The case is being investigated under Section 6 of the Explosives Act 1957 for causing an explosion likely to endanger life or property. Upon conviction, offenders may face up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine of RM10,000, or both.
