SHAH ALAM, 27 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that Universiti Teknologi MARA’s (UiTM) Jalan Othman campus in Petaling Jaya will be renamed Kampus UiTM Tun Arshad Ayub in recognition of the late education figure’s contributions to the development of higher education in Malaysia. The renaming was also reported by national media on Saturday.
The late Tun Dr. Arshad Ayub was the first director of Institut Teknologi MARA (ITM) and later served as UiTM Pro-Chancellor, playing a significant role in developing the institution and expanding higher education opportunities for the Bumiputera community.
Anwar said the renaming was intended to ensure Arshad’s legacy in educational leadership, governance, integrity and institutional development continues to be remembered.
The Prime Minister also announced an immediate allocation of RM2.5 million to support development and upgrading needs at the renamed campus.
He also tasked the Persekutuan Alumni UiTM Malaysia with identifying between seven and 10 experienced alumni to assist the government in reviewing and proposing improvements to the Bumiputera development agenda, particularly matters related to UiTM.
Among the areas highlighted for greater attention were artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing and healthcare, alongside efforts to further strengthen UiTM as a centre of academic excellence.

Anwar said UiTM’s management and development allocation for 2026 stood at RM3.08 billion, while stressing the importance of ensuring university curricula remain aligned with industry requirements to improve graduate employability and earning opportunities.
He also highlighted the need to safeguard student welfare, particularly ensuring students from lower-income families do not face difficulties accessing food during their studies.
The Himpunan Mesra Alumni UiTM event also marked UiTM’s 70th anniversary and included the presentation of UiTM Alumni Scholarships to five students, eight Tokoh Alumni UiTM 2026 awards and a special Tokoh Alumni UiTM Sepanjang Zaman award to the family of the late Tun Dr. Arshad Ayub.
Also present were Deputy Higher Education Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim, Higher Education Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Ts. Dr. Hj. Aminuddin Hassim, UiTM Pro-Chancellors Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh and Datuk KY Mustafa, UiTM Board of Directors Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Haji Mohd Khamil Jamil, UiTM Vice-Chancellor Datuk Prof. Ts. Dr. Shahrin Sahib @ Sahibuddin and Persekutuan Alumni UiTM Malaysia president Saiful Azhar Shaharun.
