KUALA LUMPUR, 30 September 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia’s traditional massage and wellness practices took centre stage at the Cosmobeauté Urutan Malaysia Championship 2026, highlighting local skills and the country’s wellness tourism potential.
Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Secretary-General Dato’ Shaharuddin bin Abu Sohot officiated the closing and prize-giving ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on 29 September.
Organised by the Malaysia Association of Wellness Trainers (MAWT), the championship showcased the talent, skills and professionalism of massage practitioners while promoting Urutan Malaysia as a distinctive wellness experience within the tourism sector.
The programme focused on strengthening the international profile of Urutan Malaysia, improving skills, safety and service quality, and expanding training and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) opportunities within the spa and wellness industry.
It also sought to encourage greater international cooperation and exchange of expertise among practitioners and industry stakeholders.

Urutan Malaysia incorporates elements of Malay and indigenous massage traditions, local herbs, Qi Gong, Indian head massage and reflexology, reflecting Malaysia’s diverse cultural and wellness heritage.
The programme also highlighted the potential of authentic wellness experiences to complement tourism promotion in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026–2027.
