ISTANBUL, 25 May 2026 (The Capital Post) — Malaysia marked another milestone in strengthening its maritime defence capabilities through the Naming and Launching Ceremony of the country’s first Littoral Mission Ship Batch 2 (LMSB2), Tunku Laksamana Abdul Jalil, held at Istanbul Shipyard, Türkiye.

The historic ceremony was officiated by Their Majesties Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Zarith Sofiah, and attended by Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

The vessel was named in honour of the late Tunku Abdul Jalil, remembered for his courage, resilience and fighting spirit symbolised through the slogan “Fight Like Jalil”, as well as his welfare legacy through the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation.

Based on the ADA-class corvette design developed by STM, the Tunku-class vessel is among the Royal Malaysian Navy’s (TLDM) latest combat assets designed for multi-dimensional operations.

Following the launch, the vessel will undergo the Setting to Work (STW) phase, including the integration of combat systems and sensors before being officially handed over to TLDM.

According to the Defence Ministry, the launch of the first LMSB2 vessel also reflects the success of strategic cooperation between Malaysia and Türkiye in strengthening defence capabilities and technology transfer while enhancing TLDM’s readiness in facing increasingly complex maritime security challenges.
