KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, reminded all parties to respect and comply with laws regarding land use and the construction of houses of worship.
The King warned against politicising religious matters, noting that such actions could threaten national harmony.
“Every issue related to land use and the construction of houses of worship must be handled according to the law,” he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Feb 11).
Sultan Ibrahim added that the same legal procedures apply to building temples, mosques, churches, and other houses of worship. Any disputes should be resolved through lawful channels to preserve harmony, tolerance, and goodwill.

“Malaysia was built on harmony and mutual respect. Our strength lies in tolerance and adherence to the rule of law,” he said.
Recalling his involvement in January 2018, His Majesty noted that he personally mediated a temple demolition issue in Johor, resolving it peacefully and lawfully. “I resolved the matter amicably and advised all parties to comply with the law to safeguard public order,” he said.
Sultan Ibrahim emphasised that Islam promotes mutual respect and does not prevent others from practising their faith, while followers of other religions should also respect Islam. “Mutual respect is essential to prevent misunderstandings, tension, and provocation, and to strengthen unity in a multireligious and multicultural society,” he said.
Earlier, the King received National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang at Istana Negara on Tuesday (Feb 11). He also reminded all parties to avoid statements or actions that could cause misunderstanding, division, or undermine peace and stability in the country.
