GENEVA, Switzerland, 10 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – Human Resources Minister YB Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan held a meeting with the leadership of UNI Global Union, led by its General Secretary Christy Hoffman, on the sidelines of the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva.
The meeting served as an important platform to strengthen strategic cooperation between Malaysia and UNI Global Union in advancing workers’ rights, social dialogue and sustainable workforce development at the international level.
According to a Facebook post by Kementerian Sumber Manusia, Ramanan shared several labour reforms and initiatives currently being implemented under the MADANI Government to strengthen national labour standards. These include the enforcement of the Gig Workers Act 2025 (Act 872), the implementation of the Occupational Safety and Health Master Plan (OSHMP) 2026–2030, as well as the Non-Workplace Accident Protection Scheme (LINDUNG 24 JAM), which came into effect on 1 June 2026.
Discussions also focused on the importance of collective bargaining principles, freedom of association and ongoing efforts to strengthen social protection and workers’ rights amid the increasingly dynamic nature of the global labour market.

Both parties exchanged views on the impact of global geopolitical uncertainties on labour markets, supply chains and workers’ well-being. Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the principles of social justice and worker protection to ensure inclusive and sustainable economic development.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Secretary-General (Policy and International) of Kementerian Sumber Manusia, Dr. Hj. Mohd Shaharin Umar; PERKESO Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Dr. Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed; Political Secretary Aizuddin Abd Gaffal; Deputy Undersecretary of the Labour Policy Division Grace Dairiam; and other senior ministry officials.
The engagement reflects Malaysia’s continued commitment to strengthening international labour cooperation while promoting fair, inclusive and sustainable employment policies in line with evolving global workforce challenges. – The Capital Post.
