GENEVA, Switzerland, 10 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia is strengthening its cooperation with the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) as part of efforts to advance social justice, workers’ welfare and sustainable labour reforms at the global level.
Human Resources Minister YB Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan held a bilateral engagement with ITUC leaders led by its Secretary-General, Luc Triangle, on the sidelines of the 114th International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva.
According to a Facebook post by Kementerian Sumber Manusia, the meeting served as a strategic platform to enhance collaboration between Malaysia and the global trade union body in promoting worker protection, social dialogue and a more inclusive and progressive labour ecosystem.
During the engagement, Ramanan highlighted several labour reforms being implemented under the MADANI Government, including strengthened protection for gig workers through the Gig Workers Act 2025, expanded social security coverage under PERKESO through the LINDUNG 24 JAM Scheme, which came into force on 1 June 2026, and the implementation of the Occupational Safety and Health Master Plan (OSHMP) 2026–2030.
Discussions also focused on challenges facing the global labour market, preparedness for international economic uncertainties, and the importance of reinforcing social dialogue and tripartite cooperation to ensure harmonious, stable and resilient industrial relations.

The ITUC acknowledged Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to advance labour law reforms and strengthen workers’ rights and welfare in response to the evolving nature of work and employment.
Also present at the meeting was Deputy Secretary-General (Policy and International) of Kementerian Sumber Manusia, Dr. Hj. Mohd Shaharin Umar, together with senior officials from the ministry and its agencies.
The engagement reflects Malaysia’s continued commitment to working closely with international labour organisations to promote fair employment practices, strengthen worker protection and support sustainable economic growth through social justice and inclusive labour policies. – The Capital Post
