Communications Ministry Backs Expanded Access to FIFA World Cup Coverage

KUALA LUMPUR, 12 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Communications has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding public access to world-class sporting events through local broadcasting platforms following the opening of the FIFA World Cup 2026 coverage in Malaysia.

Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah attended the opening match screening between Mexico and South Africa at Angkasapuri Kota Media, underscoring the ministry’s support for efforts to bring major international sporting events closer to Malaysian audiences.

According to a Facebook post by Kementerian Komunikasi, the initiative reflects the government’s continued commitment to ensuring wider access to premium sports content through free-to-air and digital broadcasting platforms.

Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), in collaboration with Unifi TV, is the official broadcaster of the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Malaysia. Through the partnership, Malaysians will be able to watch all 104 matches live and free of charge via MyTV, RTM Klik and Unifi TV.

The collaboration is expected to significantly enhance public access to one of the world’s most prestigious sporting tournaments while promoting greater engagement among football fans nationwide.

Also present at the event were Mexican Ambassador to Malaysia Luis Javier Campuzano Piña, Chargé d’Affaires of the South African High Commission to Malaysia Aletta Maseko, Broadcasting Department Director-General Ashwad Ismail and Political Secretary to the Communications Minister Abdullah Izhar Mohamed Yusof.

The initiative highlights the government’s ongoing efforts to leverage public broadcasting platforms to deliver high-quality international content and foster greater inclusivity in access to major global sporting events. – The Capital Post
