Putrajaya, 22 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia and Bangladesh have agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple strategic sectors following high-level discussions between both countries’ leaders.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Anwar Ibrahim, the Malaysian Prime Minister held a one-to-one meeting with Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman before leading their respective delegations in a bilateral meeting conducted in a respectful and cordial atmosphere.
The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in key areas including trade and investment, energy, artificial intelligence (AI), digital economy, education, human capital development, agriculture, halal industry and labour management.
Both sides also exchanged views on regional developments, particularly the situation in Myanmar and issues related to the Rohingya crisis, while emphasising the importance of continued peace efforts through inclusive engagement involving all stakeholders.
The Malaysian Prime Minister expressed appreciation for Bangladesh’s commitment in supporting the Rohingya community, reiterating Malaysia’s position that the most viable long-term solution remains the safe and voluntary repatriation of refugees to Myanmar.

The leaders also discussed broader regional and international developments that require dialogue-based approaches grounded in peace and mutual respect.
Malaysia reaffirmed its appreciation of Bangladesh as an important partner in South Asia and expressed confidence that significant potential remains for further cooperation to drive economic progress and improve the well-being of both nations.
The statement added that the understandings reached during the meeting would further strengthen Malaysia–Bangladesh relations and open new avenues for future collaboration.- The Capital Post
