TAIPING, 4 October 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) has engaged trade unions in Perak on emerging workplace challenges, including artificial intelligence, skills development and changing employment models.
The 2026 engagement session was organised through the Department of Trade Union Affairs (JHEKS) in Taiping on 2 October and brought together trade union representatives from various sectors across the state.
KESUMA Secretary-General Datuk Haji Azman bin Mohd Yusof and JHEKS senior management took part in the session, which provided a platform for direct discussion between ministry leaders and union representatives.
Discussions covered current issues and challenges facing the trade union movement, while giving representatives an opportunity to provide feedback and views directly to KESUMA and JHEKS.

Among the key areas raised were technological developments and artificial intelligence, as well as the need for trade unions and workers to adapt to changes in the employment landscape.
The session also emphasised reskilling and upskilling to ensure workers remain relevant and better prepared for evolving workplace demands.
Leadership succession within trade unions was another focus, including efforts to develop future leaders, encourage greater participation among younger workers and strengthen professional involvement in the union movement.
Participants also discussed membership growth, governance, financial management and emerging employment models such as the gig economy, which require trade unions to become more progressive and responsive to changing workforce needs.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Sumber Manusia, the engagement reflects continued efforts by KESUMA and JHEKS to strengthen relations with trade unions through open and constructive dialogue – The Capital Post
