CYBERJAYA, 4 November 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia has recorded 2.14 billion e-Invoice submissions from approximately 269,900 taxpayers as of 2 November 2026, reflecting the growing adoption of digital tax administration.

The Ministry of Finance reported that e-Invoice data had also prompted more than 97,000 taxpayers to voluntarily submit tax returns for previous years, involving RM1.68 billion in taxes payable.

The figures were highlighted during the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia’s (HASiL) Innovation and Integrity Day 2026 celebration at Menara HASiL, Cyberjaya.

Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim attended the ceremony and presented awards recognising achievements in innovation and integrity.

His speech, delivered by Finance Minister II Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, emphasised the importance of integrating technological advancements with ethical principles in tax administration.

Anwar highlighted that technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and e-Invoicing could improve administrative efficiency, but their implementation must remain guided by integrity, compassion and human judgement.

The ministry also clarified that the e-Invoice initiative was not intended to introduce new taxes or impose additional financial burdens on the public.

Instead, the system aims to strengthen transparency, identify tax non-compliance and ensure that tax obligations are fulfilled fairly.

The ceremony was also attended by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr. Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Deputy Secretary-General of Treasury (Management) Dato’ Sri Ab Rahim Ab Rahman, and HASiL Chief Executive Officer and Director-General Datuk Dr. Abu Tariq Jamaluddin.
