PUTRAJAYA, 12 May 2026 (The Capital Post) — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has called on more local authorities nationwide to reduce premise rental rates in an effort to ease the burden on hawkers and small traders affected by rising operating costs amid the global supply crisis.
According to information shared on Anwar Ibrahim’s official Facebook page, the matter was discussed during the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting chaired by the prime minister today.
Anwar said the MADANI Government had already implemented rental reductions for premise tenants and traders through Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), adding that other local authorities should emulate the initiative for the welfare of the people and sustainability of small businesses.
The meeting also reviewed several strategic measures aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s preparedness and economic resilience in facing global uncertainties and rising living costs.
