Budget 2027 Consultations Focus On Strengthening Rural Development

PUTRAJAYA, 18 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Finance (MoF) today held a consultation session with the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) to examine priorities, needs and proposed initiatives for Budget 2027 aimed at strengthening the country’s rural development agenda.

The session was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Rural and Regional Development Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi and Finance Minister II YB Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.

Discussions focused on several key areas, including strengthening rural economic empowerment and entrepreneurship, human capital development, infrastructure connectivity, as well as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

These areas are viewed as important drivers for increasing income, productivity and economic opportunities among rural communities.

The consultation is part of the Budget 2027 preparation process, which adopts an inclusive, targeted and needs-based approach to ensure national resources are channelled towards initiatives that deliver meaningful impact and help narrow the development gap between urban and rural areas.

The initiative also reflects the Government’s commitment to ensuring development goes beyond economic growth by translating it into better opportunities, incomes and quality of life for Malaysians nationwide.

Also present were Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister YB Datuk Hajah Rubiah binti Haji Wang; Secretary-General of Treasury YBhg. Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican; senior officers from MoF and KKDW; and the Budget 2027 Team.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Kewangan, the consultation forms part of efforts to ensure Budget 2027 addresses the actual needs of rural communities and supports more balanced national development. – The Capital Post
