Creative industry pushes for Budget 2027 incentives

Kuala Lumpur, 23 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – Industry players from Malaysia’s film and animation sectors have engaged with the government to provide input on potential incentives and measures aimed at strengthening the country’s creative economy ahead of Budget 2027.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Komunikasi, the engagement session was chaired by Deputy Secretary-General (Strategic Communications and Creative Industry), Datuk Bahria Mohd Tamil, at Menara Komunikasi on 22 June 2026.

The session brought together representatives from government agencies and stakeholders from the film and animation industries to discuss proposals and recommendations related to Budget 2027 initiatives, particularly those that could support the growth and competitiveness of Malaysia’s creative sector.

The engagement also highlighted strategic collaboration among several government agencies, including the Tax Division of the Ministry of Finance (MOF), the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF), and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

Discussions focused on identifying initiatives capable of stimulating industry growth, attracting investments, and enhancing the long-term sustainability of the creative ecosystem, particularly in the film and animation segments.

Among those present were Chairman of the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), Dato’ Gerald Hans Isaac; FINAS Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib; MyCreative Ventures Group Chief Executive Officer, Zainol Haqim Zainol Rashid; Secretary of the Content Development Division, Datin Izzatul Shima Md Thahir; as well as representatives from film, animation and cinema industry associations.

The engagement reflects ongoing efforts by the government and industry stakeholders to strengthen policy support and foster a more competitive creative industry landscape in Malaysia. – The Capital Post
