E-hailing driver charged with threatening young woman with knife

MELAKA: A 50-year-old e-hailing driver pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh to two charges involving possession of a knife and criminal intimidation of a young woman.

The accused, Lim Toh Seng, entered his plea before Judge Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin on Thursday (Feb 12).

For the first charge, he is accused of possessing a knife without lawful authority under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1957. The offence carries a penalty of between five and 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both upon conviction.

For the second charge, Lim is alleged to have intentionally caused fear to a 21-year-old woman by chasing her while armed with a knife. The charge, framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, carries a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

The offences were allegedly committed at a shopping mall parking area at about 9.30pm on Feb 7.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Asri Abd Rahman Sidik prosecuted the case, while the accused was represented by lawyer Ishak Mohd Kari.

The court granted bail of RM8,000 for the first charge and RM3,000 for the second, each with one surety, and fixed March 26 for mention.
