Economy Ministry Strengthens Sustainability Education Through ESD Teacher Academy

KUANTAN, 25 May 2026 (The Capital Post) — The Ministry of Economy through the National SDG Centre (PSN), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), organised the Education Sustainable Development (ESD) Teacher Academy programme under the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) initiative.

Held from 19 to 20 May 2026 at Hotel Sri Malaysia, Kuantan, the programme aligns with the aspirations of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), which emphasises the cultivation of sustainability values within the national education system.

The workshop involved 107 primary and secondary school teachers from Kuantan, Pahang and aimed to equip educators with fundamental exposure and pedagogical knowledge related to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

Participants were also guided in developing problem-based learning (PBL) teaching plans to enhance sustainability-focused education in schools.

According to the ministry, the initiative also supports the direction of the National Education Plan 2026–2030 in producing a competitive, creative and innovative generation with strong awareness of sustainable development agendas.

The programme’s closing ceremony was officiated by Deputy Economy Minister Mohd Shahar Abdullah.

Also present were representatives from Kuantan City Council (MBK), UMPSA, the National SDG Centre, the Educational Planning and Research Division (BPPDP) under the Ministry of Education, as well as officials from the Pahang State Education Department (JPN).
