Seremban 30 April 2026 (The Capital Post) – Five non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have voiced support for the Negri Sembilan ruler, stating that any attempt by chieftains to remove the monarch is unconstitutional and goes against established legal provisions.

In a joint statement, the groups emphasised that the position of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar is protected under the Federal Constitution as well as the state’s customary laws, and cannot be altered through unilateral actions by any party.

They argued that any move to remove the ruler must strictly adhere to legal procedures and constitutional frameworks, warning that failure to do so could undermine the rule of law and institutional stability.

The NGOs also called for calm among the public and urged all parties involved to respect due process, stressing the importance of preserving harmony and upholding the constitutional monarchy system.

The issue has drawn attention due to its sensitivity, given Negri Sembilan’s unique system of governance, which blends constitutional monarchy with traditional customs involving the Undangs and other chieftains.

Observers noted that the situation underscores the need for clear adherence to legal and customary provisions to avoid disputes that could affect political and social stability in the state.

The NGOs reaffirmed their stance that constitutional principles must remain the guiding framework in resolving the matter, while encouraging constructive dialogue among stakeholders.-The Capital Post
