KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia made bowling history by capturing the men’s team title at the IBF World Cup in Hong Kong on Tuesday.

The formidable quartet of Rafiq Ismail, Tun Hakim Tun Hasnul Azam, Timmy Tan and Ahmad Muaz Fishol emerged victorious with a score of 3-2 (203-170, 216-257, 197-180, 185-222, 227-161) against Puerto Rico.

The nail-biting final took place at a custom-built bowling alley in Queen Elizabeth Stadium, specifically constructed for the medal playoffs.

This triumph marks Malaysia’s first gold in the team event since its introduction at the 2022 IBF World Cup in Australia.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian women’s team, comprising Sin Li Jane, Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman, Gillian Lim, and Natasha Roslan, will face the United States in their final match shortly, aiming to complete a remarkable double for the country.
