PUTRAJAYA, 31 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) in maritime security, capacity building and technical collaboration.
The JICA delegation, led by its President Dr. Tanaka Akihiko, paid a courtesy visit to MMEA on Friday as part of ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Japan.
The delegation was received by MMEA Deputy Director-General (Operations) Maritime Vice Admiral Mohd Zawawi Abdullah. Discussions focused on expanding collaboration in maritime enforcement, safety and operational capabilities.
Also present were Maritime Enforcement and Coordination Division Director First Admiral Vincent Rajamony, Maritime Security and Surveillance Division Deputy Director First Admiral Datuk Che Engku Suhaimi Che Engku Daik, Maritime Criminal Investigation Division Director First Admiral Shahref Steve Mac Queen Abdullah, and Strategic Planning and International Division Director Captain Mohammad Nasir Man.

The meeting also served as a platform to exchange views on human capital development, operational capability enhancement, maritime technology and technical cooperation to strengthen MMEA’s preparedness in addressing increasingly complex maritime security challenges.
MMEA said its collaboration with JICA has contributed to the implementation of various capacity-building programmes, technical training and expertise-sharing initiatives that have strengthened maritime enforcement efforts in Malaysia’s maritime zone.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Agensi Penguatkuasaan Maritim Malaysia, the agency remains committed to expanding strategic international partnerships to enhance its operational capabilities while safeguarding the nation’s maritime security and sovereignty. – The Capital Post
