PONTIAN: Political parties contesting in the Tanjung Piai by-election have been urged to obtain police permits for their campaigns, especially when using election “war trucks”, says Johor police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din (pic).

Comm Datuk Mohd Kamarudin said this was to avoid any confrontation among contesting parties when they crossed paths while campaigning from their vehicles.

“We hope that all parties will get a permit to use vehicles when campaigning as well as adhere to the laws outlined.

“We do not want there to be any provocation among contesting parties that could cause disputes, leading to a fight,” he said.

He said this in a press conference at the Pontian police headquarters here on Monday (Nov 11).

He added that some 447 permits have been issued so far, including 75 for Pakatan Harapan, 264 for Barisan Nasional, 99 for Gerakan, four for Pan Malaysian Islamic Front (Berjasa) and five for the independent candidates. -The Star
