PAPAR, 22 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Works (KKR) has announced immediate measures to address traffic congestion and safety concerns along Work Package 05 (WP05) of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah following complaints from road users.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi visited the 11.7-kilometre Papar-to-Donggongon stretch to inspect the route and assess issues raised by motorists.
Although the highway section has been completed and is operational, the ministry said congestion has been occurring at a bottleneck where WP05 connects to an adjacent work package that remains under construction. Other concerns include the need for improved street lighting, safety signage and better junction access for nearby communities.
To address the issues, KKR, the Sabah Public Works Department (JKR) and the contractor have outlined several immediate measures, including improving the Traffic Management Plan through better lane configuration and coordination at the connection between adjoining construction packages to ease peak-hour congestion.

The ministry also plans to enhance road safety by upgrading road markings, street lighting and warning signs at critical locations, while carrying out regular inspections and maintenance of road surfaces and drainage systems to ensure they remain in good condition.
