KPT, MoF discuss strategic initiatives for Budget 2027

PUTRAJAYA, 26 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) and the Ministry of Finance (MoF) held an engagement session to discuss proposed initiatives for Budget 2027, with a focus on strengthening Malaysia’s higher education ecosystem.

The session, held on 24 August 2026, was jointly chaired by Higher Education Minister YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir and Finance Minister II YB Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.

Discussions focused on strategic measures to produce competitive graduates, safeguard student welfare and strengthen the commercialisation ecosystem and adoption of emerging technologies.

Among KPT’s key strategic priorities for Budget 2027 are digital transformation and smart infrastructure, aimed at ensuring the higher education system remains responsive to technological developments and emerging challenges.

The ministry also highlighted the importance of impact-driven allocation management to maximise the returns and positive outcomes from every allocation provided.

Cross-ministry cooperation was another key priority, with KPT and various government agencies expected to work together in developing a holistic and inclusive budget framework that supports national economic growth.

Also attending the session were KPT Secretary-General YBhg. Datuk Ts. Dr. Hj. Aminuddin bin Hassim; Deputy Secretary-General (Management and Development) YBhg. Datuk Ts. Dr. Mohd Nor Azman bin Hassan; Director-General of Higher Education YBhg. Datuk Prof. Dr. Azlinda Azman; Director-General of the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education (JPPKK) YBrs. Dr. Shamsuri bin Abdullah; KPT Finance Division Secretary Encik Hasan bin Muda; as well as senior officials and the Budget 2027 teams from both ministries.
