KUCHING, 5 March 2026 (The Capital Post)— Major “buka puasa” festivals will be organised in Kuching and Asajaya during Ramadan to bring communities together while promoting tourism and local economic activities.
Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the events are expected to attract large crowds, with a variety of food, cultural activities and festive programmes planned for visitors.
He noted that the initiatives aim to create vibrant Ramadan experiences for both locals and tourists while supporting small traders and entrepreneurs operating at Ramadan bazaars and festival venues.
The events will feature a wide range of traditional dishes and festive items associated with Ramadan and the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. Organisers are also planning community activities to encourage participation from people of different backgrounds.

According to Abdul Karim, the festivals are part of broader efforts to strengthen Sarawak’s cultural and tourism offerings during the festive season while providing business opportunities for local vendors.
He added that such programmes also help foster unity and togetherness among the community as people gather to break their fast during the holy month of Ramadan.-The Capital Post
