PHNOM PENH, 4 July 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) has launched the inaugural Malaysia Healthcare Expo (MHX) Phnom Penh, marking its first consumer-focused healthcare exhibition in Cambodia as part of efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a leading medical tourism destination in the region.

Held from 26 to 28 June at Aeon Mall Sen Sok City, the three-day event is the first Malaysia Healthcare Expo to be organised in Cambodia and the first consumer-focused edition to be held outside Indonesia. The initiative forms part of the Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism (MYMT) 2026 campaign under the theme Healing Meets Hospitality.

Cambodia has emerged as an increasingly important market for Malaysia’s healthcare travel industry, with more than 12,000 Cambodian patients seeking medical treatment in Malaysia in 2025. The market generated RM30.3 million in healthcare travel revenue, reflecting growing confidence in Malaysia’s healthcare services.

MHTC Chief Executive Officer Suriaghandi Suppiah said the inaugural expo demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to bringing trusted Malaysian healthcare services closer to Cambodian families while making quality medical care more accessible.

The launch ceremony was attended by Professor Sok Chour, Adviser and Deputy Director General of Health of the Kingdom of Cambodia, alongside representatives from the Embassy of Malaysia in Cambodia, highlighting the strengthening healthcare partnership between the two countries.
