SINGAPORE, 19 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia has once again reaffirmed its position as the world leader in Muslim-friendly tourism, securing the Best Muslim-Friendly Destination (OIC) award for the 11th consecutive year in the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2026.
The country also achieved top rankings in two additional major categories, namely Accessible Muslim-Friendly Destinations (OIC) and Muslim Women-Friendly Destinations, further strengthening its reputation as a global benchmark for inclusive tourism.
According to a post on its official Facebook page, Kementerian Pelancongan, Seni dan Budaya Malaysia, the recognition reflects Malaysia’s continued commitment to building a strong and inclusive tourism ecosystem supported by industry collaboration and international strategic partnerships.
The award was received by YBrs. Chua Choon Hwa, Deputy Secretary-General (Tourism), Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC), who expressed appreciation to global partners and highlighted the importance of Malaysia’s long-term tourism vision in shaping global standards.

He noted that the success is the result of strong ecosystem cooperation, particularly the leadership of the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC), which has played a key role in maintaining Malaysia’s world-class tourism standards.
The achievement is seen as a major boost ahead of the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, reinforcing the country’s position as a leading destination for inclusive and high-quality tourism experiences.- The Capital Post
