KUALA LUMPUR, 26 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia has strengthened its role in the development of school sports in Asia following key appointments at the Asian School Sport Federation (ASSF) meetings held in Changsha, China.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia, the Ministry of Education (KPM), through its Sports, Co-Curricular and Arts Division (BSKK), participated in the 19th ASSF General Assembly, ASSF Executive Committee Meeting and 26th ASSF Technical Committee Meeting.
The meetings brought together ASSF member countries to discuss organisational governance, the development of school sports across Asia, education through sports, student well-being, international sporting events and strategic collaboration. The sessions also included the appointment of the ASSF Executive Committee and several working committees for the 2026–2030 term.
Malaysia’s delegation comprised Deputy Director of the Sports Management Sector Ahmad Haridan Mohammed and Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) Secretariat representative Mohamad Khairuddin Mohamad Zatar.

Malaysia was also entrusted to chair the ASSF Education Committee for the 2026–2030 term alongside Oman and Brunei Darussalam, reflecting confidence in the country’s leadership in promoting education through sports, holistic student development and the sharing of best practices among member nations.
Meanwhile, BSKK Director Ithnin Mahadi secured a majority vote and was elected as Vice President of the Asian School Sport Federation for the 2026–2030 term.
KPM said the appointments recognise Malaysia’s leadership in school sports development and will further strengthen the country’s role in shaping regional policies, expanding strategic cooperation and advancing the school sports ecosystem across Asia. – The Capital Post.
