Malaysia, Thailand step up cross-border crime fight

Bangkok, 27 June 2026 (The Capital Post) – Malaysia and Thailand have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in combating cross-border crime through enhanced intelligence sharing, operational coordination and joint enforcement efforts.

According to a post on the official Facebook page of Polis Diraja Malaysia ( Royal Malaysia Police ), Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay attended the 29th Departmental Review Meeting of the Thailand–Malaysia Joint Working Committee on Criminal Activities, held at the Chatrium Grand in Bangkok.

The four-day meeting, held from 23 to 26 June, brought together delegations from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Royal Thai Police (RTP) to review existing initiatives, assess the progress of bilateral cooperation and discuss new strategies to address increasingly complex cross-border security threats.

Among the nine key agenda items discussed were firearms smuggling and trafficking, cross-border vehicle theft, human trafficking and migrant smuggling, intelligence sharing, human capital development, and training.

In his address, Tan Sri Ayob Khan expressed appreciation to both delegations for their longstanding commitment to strengthening cooperation. He emphasised that professionalism, accountability and integrity remain essential in ensuring the strategic partnership between PDRM and RTP continues to be effective and responsive to evolving security challenges.

He also expressed confidence that the resolutions reached during the meeting would further strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two police forces.

During the meeting, Tan Sri Ayob Khan announced that Malaysia will host the 30th Departmental Review Meeting, while expressing hope of welcoming the Royal Thai Police delegation in the spirit of friendship, trust and shared responsibility.

The meeting concluded with a farewell dinner, which also included a moment of reflection in honour of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother of Thailand, and Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati.

Also present were Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) Director CP Dato’ Rusdi Mohd Isa, Perlis Police Chief DCP Dato’ Muhammad Abdul Halim, senior PDRM officers, RTP Assistant Commissioner Lieutenant General of Police Ittipol Ittisarnronnachai, ACP Loh Pey Pey of the International Relations Secretariat at Bukit Aman, as well as senior officers from PDRM and RTP. – The Capital Post
