PUTRAJAYA, 12 August 2026 (The Capital Post) – The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) is marking ASEAN Day 2026 with a celebration and exhibition aimed at strengthening regional unity, cultural cooperation and ASEAN identity.
Held from 8 to 14 August at the MOTAC lobby, the programme features an ASEAN exhibition and interactive activities centred on the regional bloc.
The programme was officiated by YBhg. Dato’ Mohd Yusri bin Mohd Yusoff, Deputy Secretary-General (Culture) of MOTAC, and attended by Cik Fiori Rizki Djuita, Cultural and Information Division (CID) Officer of the ASEAN Secretariat.
The programme is jointly organised by the Tourism Policy and International Relations Division (DPL) and the International Cultural Relations Division (HAK).

In his opening remarks, Dato’ Mohd Yusri emphasised the importance of raising awareness of ASEAN among MOTAC staff while strengthening the spirit of togetherness and fostering a deeper sense of belonging to the ASEAN Community.
ASEAN Day, observed annually on 8 August, commemorates the establishment of ASEAN through the Bangkok Declaration in 1967 and reflects the member states’ shared commitment to strengthening regional cooperation, integration and the development of a more inclusive and sustainable future.
The programme also provides MOTAC staff with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of ASEAN’s role and aspirations while appreciating the cultural diversity, heritage and shared values that underpin a united and resilient ASEAN Community.
According to a post on the official Facebook page of Kementerian Pelancongan, Seni dan Budaya Malaysia, MyMOTAC, the initiative aims to strengthen awareness and appreciation of ASEAN among MOTAC staff while fostering greater regional solidarity. – The Capital Post
